Synopsis by Mark Deming

A woman uncovers a brutal underworld of pleasure and pain she never realized existed in this dark and edgy thriller shot in Detroit. Rachel Bishop (Rachel Nord) is a lawyer who returns home from a two-week business trip to deeply disturbing news -- her sister Emily (Nancy Walters) has vanished, and the only clue as to her recent whereabouts is a videotape in which a woman who closely resembles Emily is tortured and killed. Rachel discovers a dark side to Emily's life -- her sexual tastes include a craving for pain and punishment, and she worked as a dominatrix at a harcore S&M club called "The Playhouse." In a desperate effort to find her sister, Rachel attempts to infiltrate the dark netherworld of sado-masochism by taking a job at "the Playhouse," and as she begins to piece together the truth about Emily's disappearance, she finds herself in grave danger. Rachel's Attic also features appearances by Vinnie Dombrowski and Joey Mazzola, vocalist and guitarist with the alternative rock band Sponge.
