This four-part film is directed by four Swiss directors who all admire the work of Czech filmmaker Milos Forman. Part one concerns a 16-year-old girl and her schoolgirl friend as they struggle with the problems of youth and education. The second story concerns a 22-year-old sociology student as she attends classes at Lausanne University. Part three concerns the 31-year-old fashion-model Erika, and the final film chronicles the story of a 72-year-old woman who has lost her fortune and now resides in a retirement home. The stories of the four woman give a chronological time line from young girl to elder matron as they combine to show the full spectrum of life at different ages.
