This stylish Japanese gangster film chronicles the moral downfall of a good man. Hasegawa is a hard-working, honest architect. His Russian girl friend Tanya convinces him to help save the career of a dishonest politician by staging a bank robbery. Unfortunately, something goes wrong and a child is killed by the cruel Boss who leaves Hasegawa to take the blame. He then discovers that Tanya and the Boss were lovers and that he has taken their child. Tanya is desperate to get the child back; she has no idea that the Boss already murdered the child. The basic plotline is enhanced with strange inserted scenes featuring a variety of strange characters, including insect puppets, telling parallel fables.
