From the Portrait of an Artist series comes an in-depth look at the life and work of Russian painter Vassily Kandinsky. Kandinsky played a key role in the revolution of modern art by creating the first purely nonrepresentational work of art in 1913. As a painter and theorist, he infused the visual arts with musical concepts, effecting complex patterns and highly emotional images. As a teacher at the famed Bauhaus in Munich, the painter's innovations were widely spread throughout the art community. This film examines Kandinsky's concepts which changed the course of contemporary art.
