Although its plot is perhaps overly familiar, Pirates of the Prairie packs quite a punch for a B-Western. Not only is the heroine's father killed (that happened fairly often in these sort of things) but a woman is brutally manhandled and eventually shot in the shoulder, a fate that also befalls comic sidekick Cliff "Ukulele Ike" Edwards. Luckily for non-fans of the roly-poly comic, Edwards is fairly subdued this time around (even before being maimed by Charles King) and a running gag about a mail order bride named Genevieve -- Ike, of course, pronounces her name "Geneveevee" -- is quite funny. With a very young-looking Tim Holt at the helm, Pirates of the Prairie remains an entertaining hour or so of traditional B-Western action.
