Synopsis by Clarke Fountain

In the 1930s in Germany, it was common for boys to belong to the Hitler Youth, Nazism's answer to the Boy Scout movement. "Pimpf" was slang for the members of this group. This documentary interviews men who were members of that group, their Jewish classmates who were boys at the same time. For most of the members, even today, their memories tell of a relatively harmless group: they certainly weren't actively anti-Semitic. The Jewish men remember a different picture altogether, and speak of taunts and beatings from their classmates. They go on to speak about their wartime service. It is interesting to note that the film's Jewish director was himself for a time a classmate of these men: he was expelled from the school (for being Jewish) in 1938.
