Synopsis by Nicole Gagne

The great Indian writer/director Satyajit Ray made this touching short film for French television. Home from school on a holiday, young Pikoo (Arjun Guha-Thakurta) overhears his parents arguing but doesn't realize that his father has discovered that Pikoo's mother (Aparna Sen) has taken a lover. He mentions the argument to his ailing grandfather (Soven Lahiri), who has been incapacitated by a stroke. The lover (Victor Banerjee) comes to visit Pikoo's mother and gives the boy a drawing book and colored pens to keep him occupied. Returning from sketching in the garden, Pikoo hears his mother arguing with her lover inside the bedroom. He turns to his grandfather but discovers that the old man has succumbed to a fatal stroke. Uncertain what to do, the lonely boy returns to his drawing.
