Synopsis by Alice Day

Because of the danger inherent in the treatment of AIDS patients, some doctors have refused to offer their services to them. Efforts to educate physicians and other health care workers have not resulted in a significant lessening of this reluctance, and in Physicians and AIDS: The Ethical Response, Vol. 1, the reasons for their attitudes are presented. The ethical questions that arise from these conflicts are discussed in this program, when a surgeon must decide if he is willing to perform a surgical procedure on a man who is HIV-positive.
