Synopsis by Hal Erickson

Richard Bennett, patriarch of the distinguished American acting family that yielded actresses Joan and Constance Bennett, was the star of the 1916 American Film Company six-reeler Philip Holden -- Waster. The titular Holden (Bennett) is regarded as a "waster" by his old brother because he wishes to become an author rather than finding a more "honest" line of work. When Philip falls in love with the heroine (Rhea Mitchell), he elects to give up his literary efforts and seek his fortune in another manner. Despite his total lack of business skills, Philip succeeds beyond his wildest dreams -- the reward, no doubt, of being a nice guy all his life. Movie audiences enjoyed Richard Bennett's handful of silent starring features, though most of his fans preferred seeing him "in the flesh" on the Broadway stage.
