Synopsis by Leslie Birdwell
In 1996, the members of thePhiladelphia Orchestra did something unheard of for an orchestra -- they went on strike. This video is about a strike benefit concert performed by the musicians who came together themselves outside of the institution to perform and raise money for the cause. Conductor Luis Blava led the group through Rossini's William Tell Overture, Rachmaninoff's Vocalise, Enesco's Roumanian Rhapsody No. 1, Rimsky-Korsakov's Capriccio Espagnol, Barber's Adagio for Strings, Chabrier's Espana, and Ravel's La Valse.
