Synopsis by Elizabeth Smith

Like many men who served in the Vietnam War, Captain Pete Peterson saw his life permanently changed by the experience. However, unlike others who either returned home safely or died in that distant country, Peterson was shot down during a bombing raid in 1966. He was forced to spend the next six years of his life as a prisoner of war. This program chronicles his experiences, telling viewers about the endless cycle of torture, isolation, and interrogation he was forced to endure. Perhaps what is most remarkable was Peterson's decision to return to this country where he nearly died. For four months, the film's production team follows him as he journeys around Vietnam. Peterson is shown accompanying forensics experts who were traveling to remote mountain areas looking for American MIA remains. He also meets with different officials in an effort to encourage ongoing peaceful relations between America and Vietnam.
