In this well-made film about social conflicts in Upper Volta (as of 1984, Burkina Faso), emigration out of a village with its old traditions and into the bigger job market of a city does not prove to be the success that one young man had wanted. In another vignette, a man and woman cannot marry due to tribal laws that have very ancient roots.
