Synopsis by Mark Deming
A handful of bohemians and would-be artists are searching for both inspiration and romance in this multi-character drama from Brazilian filmmaker Roberto Moreira. Marina (Silvia Lourenco) fancies herself an actress and travels to Sao Paulo hoping to make a name for herself on the legitimate stage, despite her lack of experience. Marina moves in with Suzana (Maria Clara Spinelli), who works by day as a lawyer; one of Suzana's colleagues, Gil (Gustavo Machado), is clearly infatuated with her, but while she cares for him, she also has a secret she's convinced he could never accept. Mariana, meanwhile, has fallen head over heels for struggling musician Justine (Danni Carlos), and her neighbor Jay (Fabio Herford), a writer, is in love with Michelle (Leilah Moreno), a prostitute whose interest in him is largely professional. Paulista (aka Quanto Dura O Amor?) was an official selection at the 2010 Cinequest Film Festival.
