In May, 1991, Soviet cosmonaut Sergei Krikalev boarded a rocket to spend five months in the MIR space station with his crewmates. Due to the political turmoil down below, he and one replacement spent a total of ten months in space. When he returned, the Soviet Union was gone. This German documentary tells his story using footage from Russian television and film he and the other cosmonauts shot in the station.
