Synopsis by Robert Firsching

Although its title suggests another libidinous softcore pinku eiga film, this first entry in a historical trilogy eschews much of the usual lasciviousness for a more restrained approach. The film takes a look at life inside the shogun's harem, concentrating on the jockeying for position and status among the women, which often leads to jealousies and betrayals. Sadao Nakajima directs rather lackadaisically, as if the project wasn't one for which he had much enthusiasm. Junko Fuji toplines a cast of mostly mainstream talent including Kyoko Kishida, Isuzu Yamada, and Yoshiko Sakuma. It was followed later the same year by Zoku Ooku Maruhi Monogatari.
