Synopsis by Sarah Ing

From a fairly sedate sample gathering tour to an onboard explosion that almost resulted in tragedy, the Apollo flights began America's exploration of space. The missions are remembered in the two-hour release One Small Step for Man: Apollo 11-17. Neil Armstrong first uttered those famous words in 1969. The crews of the various Apollo crafts each collected material from the lunar top for analysis on Earth. The last flight, Apollo 17, hosted the first scientist astronaut. In addition to the actual footage of the moon experiments, the privileged few who traversed its surface are interviewed. This NASA presentation also replays the tense hours of Apollo 17 when teamwork and ingenuity saved the day.
