German-Indian filmmaker Natasha Uppal directs the half-hour documentary One Night at the Grand Star. The film celebrates the collision of cultures at a historic Chinatown musical venue near Los Angeles. Once a happening night spot, the establishment has been taken over by local DJs, underground dancers, and jazz musicians. One Night at the Grand Star was shown on PBS as part of the Independent Lens series.
