The purpose of this British historical travelogue series was to demonstrate how the present is influenced by the past. On each episode, a different historical site was visited, its cultural history and its remaining artifacts and architecture lovingly detailed. Going along for the ride was a weekly celebrity, who hailed from the region in question and offered his or her own personal touch. Also discussed were the ongoing efforts to preserve the sites shown. One Foot in the Past made its first BBC2 appearance in 1992.
