Synopsis by Clarke Fountain
Alsace and Lorraine are two provinces of present-day France, but over the decades of the 20th century, they have changed hands numerous times. At various times through the centuries, they have been independent from both France and Germany, and they have a long history of changing hands between them. At the beginning of the century, they belonged to Germany, but after World War I, they became French holdings. When Hitler gained ascendancy, he took them back into German hands, and after the Second World War they reverted once again to France, which is the country that governs them now. This documentary describes their shuttlecock history and interviews veterans from this century's wars who fought for each country. Then the film spends time with a group of young men who are preparing to enter the French Army to fulfill their required military obligations.
