This video is part of a series that chronicles the glorious history of the Olympic Games, and some of the competitors whose efforts exemplefied the Olympic ideal. This installment features two fierce competitors: Lasse Viren and Mark Spitz. Viren electrified the world when he won the 10,000-meter track event in Munich, after falling down in the middle of the race. His time was a world record. Spitz was the dream athlete, whose physical prowess brought him seven Olympic medals in swimming. Archival film footage shows both athletes in top form.
