Synopsis by Eleanor Mannikka
Jointly directed by Ewa and Szeslaw Petelski, this unremarkable wartime drama is set at the end of World War II when Kalen, the artillery sergeant of the title, is caught in a confusing situation. Several different armies are prowling the battlegrounds, which makes for a series of straightforward dramatic incidents. As the Polish freedom fighters (both communist and anti-communist), and their fascist Ukrainian counterparts, as well as several other military units, exchange gunfire, it becomes difficult to know who the enemy might be. And tragically for Kalen, it also becomes difficult to know exactly who might be the target of "friendly fire" -- or not.
