Synopsis by Alice Day
The Maya evolved an advanced culture with complex social, economic, and political developments. In this study, scholars investigate the significance of certain aspects of Mayan civilization, and propose new theories to replace old ones, in light of new discoveries. Maya: Lords of the Jungle reveals that the Mayans may have enjoyed a prosperous trade in salt, while raising crops in the jungle. No one is really certain why the culture disappeared around 900 A.D., but experts discuss theories involving dwindling natural resources as a possible factor.
