Synopsis by Alice Day
The Hubble Space Telescope was meant to be the most powerful eye in outer space, but once in place, its vision proved to be much less than perfect. Pictures sent back to scientists were disappointingly out of focus -- the multi-million dollar telescope was in need of a very expensive repair job. Nova: Rescue Mission in Space documents the Space Shuttle trip and attempt by astronauts to fix the defective Hubble. Their work proved successful, and Hubble began beaming back the stunning images of remarkable clarity.
