Synopsis by Mark Deming

Rumors of mass firings turn friends into rivals in this dark comedy from first-time director Mathias Gokalp. A large pharmaceutical company is having a special conference at a museum, where members of the management team are supposed to be learning new methods of problem solving and working as a team. However, some of the employees on hand think there might be other reasons for the meeting, and word begins to circulate that company president Philippe Muller (Pascal Greggory) is selling the firm, and plans to fire thirty executives to make it more appealing to potential buyers. Natacha (Melanie Doutey) is one of the first to hear about the proposed downsizing, and it turns out she's not very good at keeping a secret; before long, everyone has heard about what might be happening, and all of Muller's employees are eager to show how valuable they are while cheerfully stabbing their colleagues in the back. At the same time, Bergerat (Denis Podalydes), a representative with an employee's union, is hearing some troubling stories about how Muller is treating his workers from Bruno (Jean-Pierre Darroussin), except that Bergerat doesn't realize Bruno doesn't actually work for Muller. Rien de Personnel (aka Nothing Personal) received its American premiere at the 2009 Chicago International Film Festival.
