Synopsis by Eleanor Mannikka
This standard Czechoslovakian drama by Otakar Vavra has allusions to a greater problem and takes place at a roadside pub where a West German of Czech origins arrives with a Czech woman. He has come to visit his roots and is taking a break in his journey. As he and the woman sit down, the German begins to expound Nazi viewpoints about eliminating those who are not as well-endowed as the racially elite, and he goes on speaking in terms that quickly recall what led to the nightmare of Hitler's brutality. The bar owner who spent time in a Nazi concentration camp during the war cannot overcome his hatred and pulls out a gun. Yet the German manages to save his skin after the police arrive and goes off with his vanity intact.
