Synopsis by Alice Day

This series examines the cultural differences in garden styles, going back into history to demonstrate methods used by ancient civilizations. Over the centuries, man has felt a need to set aside areas where the planting can be organized under his control. In Nature Perfected, The Story of the Garden: Two Ancient Spirits -- China and Japan, viewers will see that garden practices in ancient China were to exert a significant influence on later Japanese designs. The Chinese incorporated water elements into their gardens and were the first to emphasis the careful placement of rocks and other natural objects into a garden setting.
