Synopsis by Alice Day
In this series of programs, the history of gardening is documented, beginning with the very first records of mankind's use of plants and decorative objects for a pleasurable environment. On-site filming takes the viewer to Pompeii, ancient sites in Asia, and the ruins of Rome, where evidence of a gardening tradition can be seen. Nature Perfected, The Story of the Garden: Gardens of Conquest travels to Asia, where the gardens of the Mughals graced the landscape. Fruit orchards were kept, and luxuriant areas of plants with water features, gates, and paths were symbols of power.
