Originally telecast on PBS, this documentary's first of two-part starts the viewer on a tour organized by the Museum of Natural History. Set aboard the American Orient Express, a deluxe streamliner train restored to 1940s elegance, National Parks of the West by Train, Vol. 1: The Rockies covers the first leg of the ten-day railroad expedition, which sets forth from Denver. This segment includes the Front Range of the Rockies, Rocky Mountain National Park, Golden Spike National Historic Site in Utah, and Bryce Canyon and Zion National Parks. Along the way, a team of naturalists and guides provides information and commentary regarding flora, fauna, geology, and anthropology.
