Synopsis by Tracie Cooper
Nala Damayanthi centers around Ramji, a simple Brahmin cook, who sets off to Australia in hopes of settling the debts left by his sister's wedding expenses. Things take a turn for the worse when Ramji not only doesn't get the job that was promised to him, but loses everything from his clothing to his passports. Suddenly alone and helpless on the streets of Melbourne, he manages to run into husband-and-wife pair who happen to own a restaurant. He agrees to work for them in exchange for shelter. Without a passport, his main problem becomes avoiding the immigration department. As a solution, a friend of a friend suggests Ramji find a wife. Even as he plans his faux marriage, however, immigration remains on his heels.
