Synopsis by Mark Deming

One of Thailand's most famous ghost stories gets a new and updated look in this animated comedy-adventure. A handful of spirits who have been haunting the cities for years are tired of their mischief, and have decided to move out to the countryside where they can live a quiet life. One of them is Mae Nak, a pink-haired ghost who spends most of her time with her friends Greenie, a ghost whose head isn't attached to his body; Bloatie, who looks thin and fit when he stretches himself to his massive full height but most of time has the build of a sumo wrestler; and Thong, a energetic dog spirit. One evening, Mae Nak and her pals are taking in an open-air movie when a malevolent modern-day ghost bursts from the screen and steals a young boy from his mother. Horrified by this act and determined to prove she's not an enemy of humanity, Mae Nak sets out to find the child and vanquish the rival ghost for good. Nak was the first feature film from director Natthapong Rattanachoksirikul.
