Synopsis by Derek Armstrong

Marzieh (Marzieh Vafamehr) is a young actress living in Tehran, who must keep her artistic expressions hidden from the oppressive controlling regime. At an underground rave she meets Saman (Amir Chegini), an Iranian national who has gained Australian citizenship and lives in the city of Adelaide in South Australia. The two bond over the course of an evening that gets broken up by police, and their mutual attraction grows in the days that follow. Soon Saman has proposed to Marzieh, hoping to help her emigrate to Australia and live a life free from government strictures. As the daily reminders that she must leave keep piling up, however, a mistake from Marzieh's past may be a bigger obstacle to her escape than any blockading by the government. Director Granaz Moussavi and her actors put themselves at great risk for the filming of My Tehran for Sale, carrying out their unsanctioned filming with whatever guerrilla methods were necessary to avoid discovery, while shooting in both public and private spaces in Tehran. The film received its premiere at the 2009 Toronto International Film Festival.
