Synopsis by Janiss Garza

This drama was a remake of the 1916 film starring Clara Kimball Young (and there is no truth to the rumor that that picture featured Leon Trotsky as an extra). Both pictures were based on a story by Archibald Clavering Gunter, which was made into a play by Charles E. Blaney. Helene (Irene Rich) is a countess who is masquerading as a peasant, and while she is at an inn, she is assaulted by a member of the Imperial Russian Guard. As a result, she is banished from Russia. Before escaping to Austria, she swears she will track down her attacker and kill him. Helene meets up with Alexander (Conway Tearle) and they have a passionate affair. Although Alexander urges Helene to marry him, she refuses because she is bent on finding the man who wronged her. She has no idea that the guilty party is Alexander. Finally in the midst of an argument, the truth comes out. Although Helene doesn't kill him, she does leave. After the war, Helene and Alexander meet once again and resolve their differences.
