Synopsis by Janiss Garza

When the War Between the States breaks out, Colonel Carlisle, a Virginia resident (Charles Newton), proudly throws his lot in with the South. His son, Frank (William Russell), however, is a West Point student, and aligns with the North. At war's end, Frank returns home to find his father has died in battle, and that his friends, including his sweetheart, Virginia Leighton (Francelia Billington), consider him a traitor. Virginia decides she prefers the company of Huntly Thornton (Jack Vosburgh), a hard-drinking gambler, but a Confederate nevertheless. Frank works to stop the influence of the carpetbaggers and decides to run for state senate. Thornton, who is running against Frank, is in league with Isaiah Gore (Clarence Burton). The two men decide to disgrace Frank by pinning a murder rap on him. They drug a young Negro man and use Voodoo spells to send him to attack Frank's mother. The plot goes wrong and Thornton believes the young African-American has attacked Virginia, so he shoots him. The scheme finally is revealed, and the bad guys are vanquished. Frank wins the election, and, even better, wins back Virginia.
