Synopsis by Sally Barber
The Battle of Monocacy ranks as one of the most consequential confrontations of the Civil War. Monocacy: The Battle That Saved Washington offers a historic portrayal of the July 9, 1864 engagement which was fought outside of Frederick, Maryland. The video follows Jubal Early's Army of the Valley as they move into the Shenandoah Valley, presenting a serious threat to the nation's Capitol. Just in time, General Lew Wallace pulled together an ad hoc force to reinforce Washington, saving the capitol from Confederate hands. The historic commemoration was staged on land adjacent to the Monocacy battlefield.
