Synopsis by Clarke Fountain
This documentary combines 10 films by Pat Rocco. The director's earlier films were what was called at the time "beefcake" or "muscle-flexers," designed to give homosexually-inclined viewers an eyeful of well-proportioned male flesh. This one takes a somewhat different tack. Nearly four hours in length, the highlight (and longest segment) features female impersonator Jim Bailey who gives stunning re-creations of performances of Judy Garland, Mae West and Barbara Streisand. The talented Bailey sings live and accurately captures the vocal stylings of his impersonated characters. Bailey would later parlay his talents into a successful Las Vegas show where his hauntingly realistic impersonations amazed audiences for years. The other films in this collection are documentary records of gay life in the late 1960s.
