Synopsis by Hal Erickson
Comic actor Jay Mohr, whose previous connection with professional sports included his portrayal of Tom Cruise's slimy rival in the 1997 theatrical feature Jerry Maguire, was the titular host of this weekly, 30-minute cable TV series. Advertised as ESPN's first variety show, the series was characterized by its host as "a sports party." On each episode, interviews with prominent sports figures were interspersed with standup monologues, comedy sketches, audience-participation sequences, and musical numbers. Debuting Tuesday, April 2, 2002 (it later moved to Mondays), Mohr Sports was slated for a 25-week run even before it appeared onscreen.
