Synopsis by Steve Blackburn
The video complements the acclaimed book Minding the Temple of the Soul: Balancing Body, Mind, and Spirit Through Traditional Jewish Prayer, Movement, and Meditation, which can be described as "New Age meets Ancient Prayers." Accessing Kabbalistic teachings and other Jewish traditions, the book provides simple exercises and movements to help people's bodies "understand" prayer, and shows how the body's natural energy centers correspond to the Kabbalistic concept of the ten divine "rays of light." The goal is for individuals to become more responsible for personal spiritual and physical health. In this video, the authors of the book, Judy Greenfeld and Tamar Frankiel, demonstrate the prayers, teach the movements, and lead a group prayer. The video instruction includes "Modeh Ani," uniting the body and soul; "Al Natilat Yadaim," washing of the hands; "Mah Tovu," creating a temple for the soul; "Asher Yatzar," focusing on the gift of the body; "Bircat HaTorah," balancing the mind through the gift of Torah; and "Elohai Neshamah," opening to the reality of the soul.
