Synopsis by Clarke Fountain
The stoic endurance of a group of very poor people living in Stockholm in the late 1800s is the focus of this leisurely film. The story focuses on the trials of a tuberculosis-afflicted longshoreman and the dire circumstances confronted by a young girl forced to flee her pitiful home because of parental abuse. Based on a novel by Per Anders Fogelstroem, and narrated by the author, this film clearly depicts the horrific circumstances suffered by the poor of that time.
