Synopsis by Hans J. Wollstein
Like most early Danish silent films, this triangle drama is played out in exotic surroundings far away from mundane Denmark. Mens Pesten Raser was re-titled Should He Forgive? for foreign distribution. Set in the tropics during a cholera epidemic, the melodrama centered on the bored wife (Rita Sacchetto) of a physician (Carl Lauritzen) whose dalliance with a handsome army captain (Carlo Wieth) prove to have catastrophic repercussions. Interestingly, Otto Rung's scenario for this 1913 film anticipates W. Somerset Maugham's 1925 novel The Painted Veil, which was filmed in 1934 starring Greta Garbo.
