This film is a volume in a three-part series, narrated by Edmund Capon, that explores the artistic heritage of China. In this volume, the influence of the Buddhist religious traditions on China are showcased. Capon travels to remote areas by train and bus to take the viewer to places of artistic significance. These include the frescoes of the cave temples of Dun Huang, which were built over a period of a thousand years, beginning in the fourth century. There is also a visit to see the Amitabha Buddha, as well as the shrine at Loyang, where 15,000 miniature statues of Buddha reside.
