Review by Karl Williams

Long gone are the halcyon days of Rodney Dangerfield's cinematic apex, when such films as Caddyshack (1980), Easy Money (1983), and Back to School (1986) cast his New York schnook routine in the best possible light. Those benighted films look like unadulterated classics when compared to this mindless, offensive, and utterly stupid piece of garbage. The star mugs and twitches his way through a feature-length mess of sleaze, depravity, and mindless gags. Worse, none of it is amusing. Loyal to the man who has backed many a struggling young standup comic's career, the star's friends turn up to play themselves in cameos that serve little purpose, other than to remind fans of that other, earlier Rodney -- the funny one. Woe to the film that leaves one rooting for the villain, played here with typical reliability by character actor David Ogden Stiers as the only character in the film with the sense nature gave a tree sloth. With Meet Wally Sparks (1997) and other such later career films as The Godson (1998) and My Five Wives (2000), poor Dangerfield is finishing off his career as the worst thing a professional funnyman can possibly be: a joke.
