Synopsis by Elizabeth Smith

This program is part of the Medieval Warfare set that studies the large-scale battles fought in Europe in medieval times. Each program dramatically re-creates key battles and uses maps, graphs, and artwork to help viewers grasp the full intensity of these confrontations. This volume focuses on the bloody wars now generally referenced as the Crusades. These battles involved knights from England and Western Europe fighting with the Saracen people, or Muslims, of the Holy Land. A highlight of the program is the battle fought in 1190 between Richard the Lionheart and Emperor Saladin.
