Synopsis by Janiss Garza

Although Southerner Marse Covington (Edward Connelly) fought proudly in the Civil War, he didn't gain much sense -- after the war's end, he becomes a horse racing enthusiast and winds up being swindled out of his fortune. He makes his way up to New York with his granddaughter, Miss Carol, and his lifelong Negro servant, Dan, but they fare even worse. Because of their financial hardships Dan has leave to find work in a gambling hall and Miss Carol gets an eight-dollar-a-week job. But eventually the proud Southern gentleman gets back his plantation, his mint juleps, and his peace of mind.
