Synopsis by Nathan Southern

The rocky and tumultuous Israeli-Lebanese relationship that unfurled throughout 2006 witnessed untold numbers of bombings, kidnappings, homicides, Israel's invasion of Lebanon, and - ultimately - the assassination of Pierre Gemayel, on November 21 of the said year. Despite these catastrophic events, the Beirut Marathon Association planned to move ahead, unabated, with its intended multi-event marathon run; though they delayed Gemayel's assassination by a week, they very deliberately ignored an ongoing Hezbollah rally and held the marathon as planned (including a 5k, 10k and 42k run). With Marathon Beirut: For the Love of Lebanon, documentarian Deborah Harse covers those exciting events.
