Synopsis by Alice Day
The programs in this series were filmed on-location at some of the oldest archaeological sites in the world, across the continents from Africa to Europe to China. In this episode, paleoanthropologist, author, and host Richard Leakey explores Turkana, East Africa, where fossil beds yield clues to past occupants of the region. In Making of Mankind: In the Beginning, Leakey discusses the remarkable adaptive nature of early man, which enabled him to evolve from a fruit-and vegetation-eating being who moved on all fours to a two-legged, meat-eating hominid.
