Review by Donald Guarisco

The third entry in the Aces Go Places series takes its combination of goofball humor and spectacular stunts to its most epic heights. The plot of Aces Go Places 3 is stronger than usual for the series, riffing off the plots of the James Bond series in amusing ways to set up its array of heists and double-crosses. It even works in a James Bond-lookalike villain who poses as an agent of the queen of England and uses actual Bond villain Richard Kiel for a cameo role (Mission: Impossible's Peter Graves is also thrown into the mix). Stars Sam Hui and Karl Maka deliver the expected comedic hijinks as the series' unlikely crook/cop team and, as always, their chemistry is a plus. Best of all, director Tsui Hark keeps the excitement level high throughout and delivers a number of complex, gadget-oriented action sequences that create a genuine (albeit low-budget) approximation of the action in a Bond film. The film's juvenile sense of humor might put off viewers in search of more sophisticated fare, but many others are likely to find the movie too colorful and exciting to be denied. In short, Aces Go Places 3 is the strongest film in its series and a worthwhile pick for film cultists who like Hong Kong fare.
