Shiki Tohno suffered a grave injury as a child that imbued him with a strange ability. Able to see the "life-lines" on everything and everyone around him, Shiki is constantly reminded of exactly how to destroy anything or anyone by cutting along these lines. Shiki moves in with a far-away relative and is given a special pair of glasses by a mysterious woman that allow him to no longer see the life-lines. Several years pass, and Shiki finds himself in high school learning of his father's death. He is called back home but he soon learns that he was not summoned only for family obligations; he will be asked to use his special sight which he shunned so long ago, to help destroy an immortal enemy.
