Scottish pop singer Lulu (born Marie Lawrie) headlined a number of British TV variety series in the 1960s and 1970s. One of the best of these was Lulu's Back in Town, which debuted over BBC1 in 1968. Though her guests included a number of top British musical acts, Lulu always found time for such American artists as Lou Rawls. While some sources have indicated that Jimi Hendrix made the controversial guest appearance that got him banned from British television on Lulu's Back in Town, this incident actually occurred on a 1969 series, titled Happening With Lulu.
