Review by Craig Butler

An enjoyable screwball comedy that owes a lot to It Happened One Night, Love Is News is a little piece of fluff but is quite enjoyable. As was the case with the aforementioned Capra classic (and so many other films of the period), Love deals with a madcap heiress, which means that there's plenty of high society settings for fun and, because it also deals with a newspaperman, plenty of not-so-high-society settings that are still more impressive than those one would find in real life. It's all a fantasy, and why not? Beautiful people like Tyrone Power and Loretta Young simply belong in beautiful surroundings. The screenwriters keep the silly plot complications coming and supply more than enough snappy lines and surefire situations to keep the story peppering along. Tay Garnett's direction isn't up to Capra level, but it's more than enough to keep Love sloating amiably along. Power is aces as the anything-for-a-story newshound. Youngis not quite so well suited to her ditzy heiress role, but she has the talent and the timing to pull it off. And Don Ameche is perfect as the editor that keeps Power coming and going. Not a classic, but a great deal of fun.
