Synopsis by Maggie Sadler
In the south of China, documentarian Jill Li uses raw footage to portray the lives of three Wukan villagers at their most vulnerable as they contend with the mounting political oppression of the Chinese government and seek democratic representation. As the villagers combat the corruption of the former regime and orchestrate elections of their own, they soon discover that freedom contains more intricacies and complexities than they initially envisioned.
